What is Accreditation?
For OCNs accreditation is the process whereby a structured programme
of learning or training enables participants to claim nationally
respected certification which recognises their achievements. A key
element of this process is the external scrutiny of the learning
which the OCN provides both in the development and delivery phases
of the programme. In this way the quality of the procedures and
outcomes of the programme can be assured for all involved.
OCNs offer a very wide range of accreditation opportunities for
learning and training including national qualifications within the
QCA framework, national OCN programmes and customised programmes
to meet very particular regional or local needs. These programmes
include traditional taught sessions, open and distance learning,
informal learning in community settings, work based learning etc.
OCNs can also validate programmes of learning in a very wide set
of contexts. This can range from formal educational settings such
as colleges of further or adult education, schools etc. through
work placed learning in organisations such as public sector bodies
(e.g. NHS Trusts, local government agencies, HMP Prisons), to voluntary
sector organisations (national/local charities) and informal community
group settings.
Further information can be found on Moderation
and types of Programme (including
qualifications).
